Working at the British International School
Many teachers seeking employment abroad are naturally anxious about moving to a new country as well as a new school. We are fortunate at the British International School to have well equipped classrooms, small class sizes and well behaved children, but the Directors recognise the need to give teachers clear and full information about the school, entry into Ukraine, their accommodation and living conditions in a big city. The Staff Handbook, documents on Accommodation and Medical Cover and Living in Kyiv provide most of this information and are available on demand. In addition, a close liaison is quickly established between newly appointed teachers and the International Welfare Officer, the School Secretary, the Principal and the relevant teaching staff to ensure a smooth and confident move takes place.
Having a safe and comfortable new home is obviously important, but for any professional knowing that there are opportunities for career progression within the school and for continuous professional development is equally important. The directors are supportive of the needs and requirements of the teaching staff and as well as in-house training as required, the schools’ parent company, ABE Group, works closely with various educational consultancies in the UK and worldwide, such as Creative Education and Open Minds, to offer tailor-made courses. For example, in August, there will be a workshop on the effective use of the latest SMART board technology. It is also possible for teachers to attend seminars and international conferences relevant to the school’s development.
