Word from Principal
Welcome to the website of the British International School, Kyiv, Nivki Campus. Vivat nostra academia.
The years a child spends at school should be the happiest and most fulfilling of times; they should be full of fun and challenge, a growing self-esteem, an awareness of possibilities and personal achievement. We believe all this, and more, is offered at our school.
We also believe that every child has the right to a full and appropriate educational experience, so you can expect every possible opportunity to be afforded them to develop their potential in as many different areas as possible.
The curriculum offered is broad and balanced and the status of all subjects is highly regarded.
Our expectations are high and these apply to behaviour as well as to academic study, art, music, drama, sport, afternoon activities, additional interests, community projects and school attendance.
We encourage our pupils to become independent thinkers, but good team players as well. We want them to learn transferable skills in order to prepare them for life in a rapidly changing and increasingly technological and competitive world. We also aim to develop them as ambassadors for the institution, their family, the wider community and their country.
In short, we want pupils of the British International School, Kyiv, to be the best.
Hopefully, the information on these pages will give you a good insight into our school, but words and photographs can tell you only so much, so you are warmly invited to make an appointment to visit the school and meet the staff and the pupils. I certainly look forward to welcoming you and your children.

The Principal’s personal philosophy
A school has a huge responsibility because it is charged with helping shape the citizens of the future, individuals with confidence, integrity, a respect for others, an understanding of the problems and possibilities on the international stage and the knowledge, skills and understanding required to be successful and happy in an increasingly cosmopolitan world.
Creating the environment in which these qualities can be developed is my challenge, and one I relish. I seek to establish a vibrant team of committed, up-to-date, involved and valued professional educationalists as they provide the right role models and ensure that their pupils are given the best possible opportunities to reach their potential.
Principal’s profile
Alastair’s father served in the RAF in a number of different countries and Alastair himself was born in Malta, so perhaps it was inevitable that he would combine a career with travel. He gained his BA (Combined English and Geography) from Cape Town University and his PGCE from London University. He has led schools in the Falkland Islands, Mozambique, China, Thailand and Qatar as well in the United Kingdom, and is totally committed to international education.
He has also worked as an outward bound instructor and school inspector and he has incorporated these experiences into his approach to teaching and what constitutes good practice.
Alastair is a keen sportsman, enjoys reading and travel and is happily married.
